DiAnn Lucille Gehrke Andreason, 79 years young, slipped peacefully through the veil of death, holding her daughters’ hands and surrounded by those who love her on both sides of the veil.
DiAnn was born on July 8, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the middle child and only daughter born to Herb and Nola (Allmark) Gehrke. She graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah. She passed away on January 2, 2026, in Herriman, Utah.
DiAnn married Darrald Lee (Andy) Andreason on March 6, 1964. Their loving family grew with the addition of their children, Cathy Lynn, Bradley Darrald, and Debra Kaye. The family lived in Murray, Utah, for many years. DiAnn would later move to West Jordan, where she made many wonderful friends in her neighborhood. Eventually, she would move to South Jordan to be nearer to her family.
Following the loss of her husband in 1983, DiAnn was forced to become the head of the family. As a single parent and lone grandparent, she embraced the responsibility of loving each family member with double the love to make up for the difference. She attended so many school activities, grandparents' days, community events, and sports games to show her love and support to her family.
DiAnn also loved to travel. She made the decision to take each of her grandchildren on a special vacation when they were beginning their teenage years. This was a special opportunity for the two of them to spend time together making memories. DiAnn was so happy to be able to take her youngest grandchild on his special vacation in October of 2025. She traveled to Mexico many times, visited Hawaii a few times, traveled to Europe with her daughter and granddaughters, and drove across the country with her daughters and mother on a girls’ trip. There are so many memories that were created on adventures with DiAnn.
DiAnn had a gift of creativity. She would crochet, knit, and quilt, so many wonderful projects to share with family, friends, neighbors, and nurses. Not a baby was born into this family that didn’t receive special hand-created blankets, outfits, and toys. She created beautiful diamond art pictures, ceramics, and paintings. Her creativity carried through to the outdoors, where her green thumb created a beautiful yard filled with flowers, fountains, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
She loved spending time outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. She was the most patient fisherman you could ever come across, spending many hours at the lake with a line in the water and a book in her lap. During her life, she loved to ski in the winter months and golf in the warmer months. She was proud of the fact that she could pull her trailer and back it up all on her own.
DiAnn celebrated being a stay-at-home mom for most of her life. Only taking various short-term employment opportunities until her children were all grown. It was then that she took employment with the State of Utah at the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. She would work with Utah State until her retirement in 2009.
DiAnn filled her life with many very loved pets. She would often joke (we think) that her pets were her favorite children because they never argued with her and she never had to ground them. The recent loss of Pixie broke her heart while also giving her some comfort that she wouldn’t be leaving her behind. We know that among the many friends and family that were there to meet DiAnn, Pixie, Amie, Mickey, Gizmo, Jeremiah, Dandy, and many, many, many other pets were excited to see her again.
DiAnn was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Darrald Lee (Andy) Andreason, her parents, Herb and Nola Gehrke, brothers, Dennis Gehrke (Bernadette), Paul Gehrke (Doreen), her son, Bradley Darrald Andreason, daughter-in-law Wendy (Petersen) Andreason, granddaughter, Victoria DiAnn Andreason Choi (Jo).
DiAnn will be deeply missed by those who survive her, Cathy and Rick Cooper, Debra and Dan Sorensen, grandchildren Natalie (Doug) Kolb, Brittany Cooper, Camille (Zach) Campbell, Mariah (Bryan) Anderson, Braeden Sorensen, Bailey (Blake) Carpani, Elijah Sorensen, Ryker Sorensen, Zachary Andreason, Tyler Andreason, 15 great grandchildren, and many friends who were like family.
Because we don’t want to be haunted, there will be no public viewing. However, we will gather to remember DiAnn.
