Dolores Marie Burke, 91, peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord on December 3, 2022. She was born to Gerald and Eleanor Gautcher in Dunkirk, New York in 1931. Dolores met her loving husband of 70 years, Myles Burke, there when they attended St. Mary’s High School. They were married in 1952. After moving to Chicago and raising their family, they later settled in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dolores was an athletic woman and enjoyed cheerleading at St. Mary’s. She also designed the cheer costumes for the team. Her artistic talent continued as she took up oil painting and became quite proficient. Her family displays her beautiful artwork in their homes.
Dolores had a lifelong devotion to her Catholic faith. She studied and became a Third Order Carmelite nun. She enjoyed teaching CCD lessons to young children and was very attentive to preparing lessons they would enjoy.
As a parishioner of St Vincent parish, Dolores made many close friends with whom she shared many fun experiences, including travel. Their travels included a few pilgrimages to Medjugorie.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Myles, six children; Sharon (David) Tooley, Claudia Blaz, Thomas (Sharon) Burke, Carolyn Burke, David Burke, James (Kathryn) Burke, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Eleanor Gautcher, her brother, Gerald Gautcher Jr., and her grandson, Sean Burke. Since Dolores passing last year, we have lost two beloved family members, John Blaz on 6/10/23 and our son and brother Michael Burke on 12/30/23
Dolores said we would all be in heaven together one day and she always meant what she said. Her sense of humor and quick wit was often hilarious. She loved to make you laugh. She was always there for you when you needed her. An old fashioned, traditional wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed and very often remembered with love, until we meet again.
A Catholic funeral mass was held at St Vincent’s parish on 12/28/22. Inurnment will be at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, on 1/12/24 at 1:30 pm
