Donald J Blackwell

Don Blackwell passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2015.  Don was born on February 5, 1929, to William and Matilda Blackwell in Marysvale, Utah, the youngest of six children.

On November 29, 1949, Don married Geraldine Howes in the Manti Temple.  Geraldine preceded Don in death on June 3, 2014.

Don and Geraldine had three children, Keith Blackwell, Bonnie Gaver (Jamie) and Nanette Calhoun.  Don and Geraldine enjoyed seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Don served 33 years on the Salt Lake City Fire Department retiring as a Lieutenant.  Don also worked for Mount Olympus Waters part time during his 33 years as a firefighter, and then went full time after retirement.

Don loved to participate in his church sport activities, and was the coach of the All Church Basketball Champions in 1970.

Don and Gerry served two humanitarian missions for the LDS Church in the Liberty and Glendale Stakes.

Don was loved and admired by many, especially his family.  His children and grandchildren will attest to his magnificent sense of humor, witty remarks and remarkable story-telling abilities.  Don will be missed terribly, but will live on in our heart and memories forever.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Friday April 3, 2015 at the Edgehill Ward, 1500 East 1750 South, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00am to 11:00am prior to services.
