Donald J. Ernstsen, 80, passed away November 29, 2010 with his loving wife of 54 years and 3 surviving children holding his hands as he peacefully slipped through the veil to a joyful reunion in heaven.
Don was born October 28, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hans and Eairs Ernstsen. His father passed away when Don was a small boy. What a wonderful thing it is for him to reunite with his father again.
Don loved to talk about his days of boxing, enjoyed reading, family vacations and anything sweet to eat. He was a science and math teacher for 30 years, teaching at both Hillside and Wasatch Jr. High. His greatest calling as a teacher, however, was by the wonderful example he set as a kind and loving husband, father and friend.
Don served his country in the Air National Guard 191st Fighter Squadron. We especially want to thank the staff at the Utah Veteran's Nursing Home for their outstanding and dignified care of Don over the last year.
Don Married Anna Lou Francis on November 20, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She has lovingly cared for him the last several years as his health declined. Together they created a supportive and loving home for their children, Barry J. Ernstsen (deceased), Brad Paul (Kerri) Ernstsen, Paula Lee (Hal) Cannon, and Teresa Ann (Doug) Bruin. He especially loved his grandchildren, Erin, Zachary, Derick, Brandon, Emily, Stuart, Jacee, Brecc and Tayler, as well as his 7 great-grandchildren. Even in poor health, he lit up when the little ones were around. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Rudman and son, Barry J.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winder 7th LDS Ward House, 4350 S. 1100 E. SLC, UT. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E. SLC, UT, and at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
