Donald Wayne Hook, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully in his sleep November 14, 2014. He was born February 18, 1929 in Hartsville, Indiana to Dorthy Lucille (Ritchison) and Cleo Emery Hook. He served in the Korean Conflict and graduated from Purdue University Engineering School in 1958. He married Ellen Marie Pickens December 1, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
For many years Don served as a civil engineer in Indiana Flood Control and Water Resources, and eventually relocated to Utah in 1975. He retired from the Bureau of Land Management in 1990 to pursue his many talents. He proved himself a musical prodigy at a very early age and, at age seventeen, was performing professionally on the pipe organ. Music continued to be important throughout his life. He was also a prolific writer and authored more than forty novels and three hundred short stories.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Marie, and five children: Peggy Marie DeCamp (John); Owen Robert Hook; Harold Arthur Hook (Donna); Michael Lewis Hook (Ginger); and Laurel Sue Hook (Shawn Pitcher); nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maris England, and grandson, Shawn Michael Pitcher.
A memorial celebration of Donald's life will be held on Tuesday November 18, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Southeast Christian Church, 1881 East Vine Street. On line memories and tributes can be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com
