Obituary

Donna Jean (Speight) Gunrud

Donna Gunrud died on August 3, 2026, in Murray, Utah, at the age of 100. She was born on June 18, 1926. Donna was one of three children (two daughters and one son) born to Arthur Edward Speight and Clara Elizabeth Downey Westbrook. She graduated from West High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Utah. Donna married Kenneth Ellsworth Gunrud on June 27, 1949, and they were married for 64 years. She taught school for several years in the Jordan School District and then left teaching to raise a family. Donna and Ken raised five children – one daughter and four sons.

Donna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. She loved music and was a talented pianist and organist and played at countless church meetings and funerals.

Donna loved to read and that was one of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed classic movies. However, there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with family and friends. She will always be remembered for the support she gave to others and her thoughtful nature. Those celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion always received a card or note from her.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, and husband. She is survived by her children: Gary (Renate) - West Jordan, Pam (Jim) Butterfield - West Valley City, Garth - Salt Lake City, Lane (Diane) - South Jordan, and Lynn (Sarah) - Taylorsville; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
