Donna Jean, “Dj”, Hayes-Lefler-Sperry

Donna Jean, “DJ”, Hayes-Lefler-Sperry quietly passed away from natural causes on April 12, 2023 in Layton, Utah at age 90. She was born on February 12, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bonita Josephine Cary and Lawrence George Hayes.
She grew up in Kamas, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School in 1951, where she enjoyed dancing, debate, and cheer leading.
She married Carl A. Lefler on May 20, 1953, and gave birth to Cary Roxanne, Johnny Lawrence, and Ricky Carl. They later divorced. She married Ralph B. Sperry Jr. on November 7, 1957, and brought Charles Alan and Ralonna Josephine into the world. They later divorced.
DJ was eager to live life and strove to be a progressive, “modern” woman. Among other employments, she enjoyed many years as a realtor in the Salt Lake City, Utah and Newport, California areas. In midlife she was awarded Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Utah, in Psychology and Political Science. She bragged about her five wonderful children to all she met. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren even though she suffered from dementia for the last ten years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both former husbands, sister-in-law Pat Hayes, brother-in-law Dallas Corotta, and brother Paul Hayes.
She is survived by her sister Lawana Corrota, brother David Hayes (Doe), sister-in-law Deanna Hayes; children: Roxanne S. Burnham (William), Johnny L. Sperry (Bonnie), Ricky C. Sperry (Darece), Charles A. Sperry (Jill), Ralonna J. Walton (Douglas), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for DJ and her interment will be on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah, at 12:00 P.M.
