Doris Ipsen Barker

"Grandma Dodie" We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. We think of you in silence. We often speak your name. Now all we have is memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts. Beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father, January 16, 2016 at the age of 87 due to complications from a stroke. Doris was born to Marcus and Gladys Zundel Ipsen in Ogden, UT on December 2, 1928. She graduated from Box Elder High School on May 25, 1947. She married her eternal sweetheart, Rex Barker on June 22, 1946 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple on June 16, 1947. Doris was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. Doris touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Doris enjoyed the outdoors, traveling with her husband, Rex, spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She also enjoyed watching the birds outside of her window and playing farkle. She enjoyed playing bingo and was given the name Bingo Bandit due to her success at winning. Doris is survived by her sons Brad (Launa), Kim (Linda), Greg (Julie), Cory (Claudia), Mike and Dogg, 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Rex, infant daughter Ann Marie, her parents, two sisters and one brother. The family would like to thank The Wentworth assisted living. A special thank you to Brighton Hospice for your tenderness. Thank you to all of the staff at The Wentworth for your EXCEPTIONAL love and care for "DB". Thank you for treating her like family and ATTEMPTING TO MAKE HER BED CORRECTLY. To her many, very special friends, you know who you are. Thank you to her very dear friend, Jan for always laughing with her. Sincere appreciation to Cory and Claudia for years of overseeing mom and dad's personal well-being. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday January 21, 2016 at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Mortuary and also on Thursday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to the services.
