Doris Maresh Stonestreet

November 16, 1926 — August 17, 2024

Holladay

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Doris Maresh Stonestreet, also known as “Mom mom,” passed away on August 17, 2024 and we are saddened to have lost her. She lived a full and wonderful life; 3 months shy of 98 years old. It is such a heartfelt loss to lose a Mom and we feel it.

Doris was born on November 16, 1926 to her parents Lydia Emily Stalmach and Edwin Maresh in a small Texas community of “Czech Texans”. She was born on the family farm and was the oldest daughter of two sisters and one brother. Doris carved her own way of living life to the fullest. She graduated with an Education Degree with an emphasis in Art from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas.

She met the love of her life on blind date, Hardeman Stonestreet, “Hardy,” while Hardy was attending law school at the University of Texas in Austin. They married on July 7, 1951 and moved to Midland Texas where their 4 children were born. The family of 6 moved to Holladay, Utah in January of 1967.

Doris was vivacious and fun. She was an active Mom who decorated the family home beautifully for each holiday, baked yummy chocolate birthday cakes, took up skiing and painted wonderful oil landscapes in her 40’s, attained her Real Estate License in her 50’s, travelled extensively with Hardy in the US and abroad in her 60’s and 70’s, played bridge and golfed with friends, and provided excellent guidance to her children for eating healthy throughout her life. She was a beautiful woman who has been described as strong, willful, and spirited. She was crowned the “Coming Home Queen” of her alma mater Southwest Texas State in 2000…she was 73 years old.

Doris kept her zest for life her whole life, never wanting to hear how old she was. In her 90’s she was passenger in a racing car going almost 200 miles per hour, commenting how she loved to go fast. That’s our Mom.

We celebrated our Mom on August 23rd and drank margaritas, her favorite drink. Family, friends, and neighbors gathered to honor her. We will miss her, but she will always be in our memories.

Doris is survived by her two sisters Gladys Forester and Joydene Ternus, her children Teresa Eubank (Bruce Dennis) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Deborah Stonestreet of Redondo Beach, California, Hardeman Stonestreet, Jr., “Rocky” of Sandy, Utah, and Rebecca Stonestreet (Scot Bergeron) of Mill A, Washington. Also surviving Doris are her 4 grandchildren Nicolas Adams (Tanya), Eric Adams (Abby), Statton Stonestreet, and Slader Stonestreet, her 4 great-grandchildren Olivia, Sophie, Cohen and Aiden and her many nieces and nephews.

Doris's family is grateful for Maryanne and Fehi Tualava for helping Mom out in her last years and through her death.
