Doris Whipple Schooley

March 27, 1938 — January 5, 2023

Doris Whipple Schooley, 84, passed away on January 5, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Doris was born on March 27, 1938 to Dewey and Ruth Whipple. Doris spent the early years of her life on a farm in Pine Canyon, Utah. Her love for Tooele and Pine Canyon was always at the forefront of the stories she would share. Doris suffered the loss of her mother at a young age and stepped up to take care of her large family. Doris then went on to cosmetology school, completed her schooling and opened a salon where she cared for many clients.

Doris met James Schooley, her husband of 61 years through her father. They went on their first date to a dance hall, and they danced their way into marriage quickly from there and soon started their family. Doris enjoyed taking her children camping and fishing through the years and those are some of the distinctive memories made that her children recall.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she spent time working at Deseret Industries in the cafeteria. She had a great love for God, and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chose in her later years to make covenants in the temple of the Lord. Doris enjoyed cooking for her family and doing crafts of any kind. She particularly loved painting ceramics and crocheting.  You will likely find something she made in her family’s homes today. Later in life, you would find her working on word search puzzles. She always enjoyed car rides whether it was a short ride through Tooele or the Alpine Loop or a long journey to Yellowstone or Branson. Doris always centered her life around family and considered that her greatest achievement.

Doris is survived by her husband James, her 4 children: Donald (Cathleen), Cory (Linda), Traci (Joel) and Martin. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She has 3 surviving siblings: Dexter, Ted and Doug. Doris is preceded in death by her father and mother, her granddaughter Skye and 8 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Memorial Estates, located at 6500 S Redwood Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84123. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and services will start directly after at 10:30 am. Graveside services will follow.
