Dorothy B. Cary passed away on January 27, 2023, in American Fork, Utah at the age of 93. She was born on September 25, 1929, in Heber, Utah to Grace Violet Anderson and Andrew Tatton Bench. She married Charles Henry Cary Jr. on May 3, 1951.
Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She taught Primary for 15 years. She was also a visiting teacher for 40 years, and Relief Society Secretary for 8 years. She was also Den Mother in Scouting, Manager in School Lunch Program for 10 years, and also Assistant Teacher for Special Education for 10 years in Granite School District.
She also worked for Mervyn’s Department Store, and in The Church office building, Cafeteria serving General Authorities and their wives at General Conference Time. She loved teaching children with learning problems and disabilities.
Dorothy also loved the beauties of nature – she enjoyed sunrises and sunsets. She had a passion for gardening and always had beautiful flowers and yard (which she hand-watered even through her 80’s!) She loved her family and all the wonderful times together. She loved her Country and was grateful to be born in America. She felt she lived an abundant life within it’s shores.
Dorothy is survived by her three wonderful and loving children: daughter Sharon (Tom) Nuttall, son, Steven (Kathie) Cary, and daughter Annette (George) Durfee, and her 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles H. Cary, all her siblings; brothers Calvin, Ray, and Dean (her twin), and sister Venice.
The family extends their most sincere gratitude to Dignity Hospice for their help in caring for our mother during her last three weeks of mortality. A special thanks to her nurse, Josie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 1:00 PM at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary and Cemetery 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah 84070. Interment will follow immediately at the same location next to her sweetheart, Charles.Service Information
