Dorothy Iris Goodliffe Beer

December 31, 1929 — December 13, 2022

Our devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Dorothy Iris Goodliffe Beer passed following a long life of service to her family, church and fellowmen.
Iris was born in Tremonton, Utah to Arnold Francis Goodliffe and Leah Callahan Goodliffe. Iris lived her first seven+ years in Park Valley, Utah. It was at this early age that she decided she would be a nurse. After graduating from South High School in Salt Lake City, she attended and graduated from the LDS Hospital School of Nursing at Kingsbury Hall (University of Utah). It was during this time that she met and married Ted. She married Raymond Edward (Ted) Beer on August 19, 1948. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
Her life with Ted involved multiple relocations from Salt Lake City to Boise, Idaho, to Lubbock, Texas and back to Salt Lake City. She worked as a nurse most of her adult life but suspended her career for a period while her children were young. Iris spent most her nursing career in the operating room and, at the height of her career, served as Head Nurse over multiple operating rooms at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Her nursing activities were not limited to the hospital as she was often called upon by friends and family for medical assistance and advice.  Ted affectionately referred to her as “Nurse Jane”.
Her and Ted’s lives were characterized by faithful and dedicated service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where it was their heartfelt privilege to witness the Lord’s hand in building His earthly kingdom serving in multiple leadership, administration, and teaching assignments. Following their retirement, they were called to a church service mission where they served for six years as ushers on Temple Square.
Iris is survived by her sons Stephen (Kim), David (Robyn), Scott (Carliane) and Brett; twenty grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Glenna Lloyd and Marilyn (Bob) Neff.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her son Douglas and her grandson Clinton.
Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on December 28th at the Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary Chapel (4670 S Highland Dr, Holladay, UT). A viewing will begin at 9:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The LDS General Missionary Fund.
