Dorothy Elizabeth Mcgregor Spencer

June 29, 1911 — January 15, 2009

Our mother, Dorothy Elizabeth McGregor Spencer, died peacefully in her sleep on 15th January 2009, of incidents due to her advanced age. She was born in Salt Lake City the 29th June 1911, the youngest child and only survivor of two girls and three boys born to George Arthur Wellington McGregor and Edith Suzanna Borg. Mother grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and when she was 17 she met this handsome young man who tap danced and had a wonderful voice when they both were in a mutual production at the ward. This was it! They fell in love, married in the Salt Lake Temple three years later, and had four children of their own, three daughters, Dorothy, Karen, and Sherryl, and their only son, Neil. Life was very busy, Dad built a home for us and served in many church callings including the bishopric. Mom raised children and a garden, bottled fruit, sewed, and did all the "Mom" things. They were happily planning for their future retirement until Dad had a heart attack on Mother's Day 1963, and died of another attack on Dec 1 of the same year at the age of 52. Mom was alone 45 years, but during that time she traveled, served in the Temple, was a Young Women's President, sang in the "Sweet Adelines" (she had a beautiful alto voice), and was an integral part of our family. We shared many wonderful travels and experiences. Mom is survived by her four children, a large posterity of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren who love her and will miss her until we all meet together again. Services will be held at the Valley View 10th Ward, the corner of 3900 S and 2000 E, Salt Lake City, Utah at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th. Friends and loved ones are invited to visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. that morning prior to the service. Special thanks to Hospice nurse Bonnie McPhie and staff at Kolob Regional Care Center.
