Douglas Arthur Smith
January 7, 1948 – February 8, 2023
Midvale, UT- Douglas Arthur Smith (Doug) passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023 in the presence of his loving wife of 50 years. Born January 7, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. From the moment of his birth, he was a blessing to his parents, Franklin and Geraldine Smith, and four siblings. On September 8, 1972 he married his sweetheart and best friend, Linda Marie Gerber in the Salt Lake Temple.
Doug was an extremely hardworking man and held various positions throughout his career, some of which include: working in the genealogical department for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, data processor for Fleming Foods, and information technology expert for Intermountain Health Care. Despite retiring in 2018, he decided to go back to work part time for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Global Service Center for several more years. He greatly enjoyed interacting with people, and all those who worked with him enjoyed being in his presence.
Family was Doug’s number one priority in life. His greatest joy came from being a Husband, Father, and Papa to his 21 grandchildren. He loved attending all his family members games and activities, Sunday dinners, family vacations to Yellowstone, and watching movies. He had a great singing voice, and appreciated musical theater. He especially enjoyed his season tickets to Desert Star Playhouse, and his laughter could be heard ringing out across the audience throughout the performances.
Doug never doubted his faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. His testimony of his Heavenly Father and Gospel led him to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northern Western Mission, which encompassed Washington and Oregon. He served in many different callings for The Church such as, Stake Financial Clerk, and member of the Bishopric. His favorite Church positions were serving as Branch President for a special needs care center, and Cub Master.
Doug’s big smile, warm hugs, and infectious personality will be extremely missed by all.
He is survived by his: wife Linda Smith, his children Gregory (Jane) Smith, Leslie (Scott) Robison, Bryan (Natalie) Smith, Daniel (Molly) Smith, Kevin (Amber) Smith, and his siblings, Scott Smith, Don Carlos Smith, Lorraine Smith.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Geraldine Smith, brother Geoffrey Smith, and his granddaughter Tilly Smith.
