Norm Rounds, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away September 27, 2022 at 2:30 pm. Norm was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 17, 1944 to Kent Wadsworth Rounds and Cenella Frances Fagg Rounds. He spent his early years in Ogden, Utah and Walnut Creek, California and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission.
Norm met his sweetheart of 53 years, Peggy Jean Gordon, when they were students at Brigham Young University. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 14, 1969, and moved to Chicago, Illinois for Norm to attend dental school at Northwestern University. Norm graduated from Northwestern in 1973 with a commendation from the American Society of Dentistry for Children.
Upon graduation, Norm and Peggy moved to Gallup, New Mexico where Norm served as a dentist in the U.S. Public Health Service. After three years in the service, they moved to Utah where he began his dental practice.
Norm loved the profession of dentistry. He served as president of the Utah Dental Association from 1999-2000 and served on the Council on Membership for the American Dental Association from 2002-2005. He was a faculty member at the University of Utah General Practice Residency Program for twelve years, and also served on the Professional Insurance Exchange board. He received a distinguished service award from the Utah Dental Association and was a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists.
As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Norm served in bishoprics and as a high councilor. He was also an ardent supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and served as scoutmaster and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. A lifelong supporter of his Alma Matter, BYU, he enjoyed attending football and basketball games with his family and friends. He liked jogging, hiking and trips to St. George.
He is loved by his wife Peggy, his siblings Carolyn (Richard Buck), Janet (Roger Clarke), Louise, Al (Cynthia) and Barbara (Steven Stuart), his children Brian (Tracy Takenaka), Michelle (Ray Ly), Jeff (Cheryl) and Alison (Jed Ashton), eight grandchildren and one grand cat.
