Dwain Jesse Schrader passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 74.
He was born on April 21, 1952, to Wilford Henry and Gertrue Ethel Schrader and grew up in Bountiful, Utah. Like many kids growing up there at the time, he spent plenty of his younger years outdoors, exploring the foothills, causing at least a reasonable amount of trouble, and building the sense of humor he carried for the rest of his life.
In 1988, Dwain moved to Las Vegas, where he made his home for nearly four decades. He worked as an Engineer at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada until retiring in 2020. He took pride in working hard, fixing problems, and being the kind of person others could count on when something needed to get done properly.
Dwain was a father to three children and, in recent weeks, a grandfather. In 1977, he and Sue Coomes welcomed their son, Travis Eldon Schrader. In 1988, Dwain married Janelle Luann Gibson, and together they had Wil Schrader and Jenne Schrader. During Janelle’s long battle with lung cancer, Dwain remained a devoted husband and father through some very difficult years before her passing in 2008. Beginning in 2014, Dwain shared his life with Evangeline Sarabia, whom he married in Las Vegas in 2021, proudly welcoming her daughters, Katrina and Karla Jhoy Sarabia, into the family.
One of the brightest recent additions to Dwain’s life was becoming a grandfather. He was proud to welcome his grandson, Logan Theo Whitney, born April 29, 2026, just weeks before his passing. Even in this short time, Logan gave the family a new reason to smile and a reminder that life keeps moving forward.
Dwain lived through both great joys and deep losses, including the death of his son Travis in 1994. Through it all, he remained steady, sarcastic, stubborn in the ways that mattered, and deeply loyal to the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline Sarabia Schrader; children Wil (Sara) Schrader and Jenne (Brandon Whitney) Schrader; grandson Logan Theo Whitney; stepdaughters Katrina and Karla Jhoy; former spouse Sue Coomes; brother Donald LeRoy (Lois) Schrader; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford Henry and Gertrue Ethel Schrader; siblings Janet Louise Knight, Wilford “Sonny” Paul Schrader, and Darryl Robert Schrader; wife Janelle Luann Gibson; and son Travis Eldon Schrader.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, at Memorial Redwood Cemetery in West Jordan, Utah. A reception will follow from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the patio of the mortuary.
The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with love, stories, laughter, and support during this difficult time. Dwain would probably tell everyone not to make too much of a fuss, but he would also be glad to know he will be remembered well.
