Earl Joseph “Art” Carney
1934 ~ 2013
Earl Joseph “Art” Carney passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on November 17, 2013 in Salt Lake City. He was born to Earl Joseph Carney, Sr. and Lorraine Riseley in Chicago, Illinois on June 25th. He is preceded in death by his father, a brother, a son, and his very special dog, Pepper, a Scottish Terrier. He is survived by his mother, his wife, Shirley, his ex-wife, sisters and brothers, children, nieces and nephews, grand-children, and great-grand-children, and Barney, his other very special Scottish Terrier dog.
He is a veteran of both the Navy (rank of Seaman) and Air Force (rank of Master Sergeant) and made the military his first career. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His service inspired two grandsons to also enlist in the armed forces. His second career was working as a benefits counselor at the Veteran’s Administration.
Art loved to talk to his friends, make connections with people, and vacationing to see family. His great sense of humor and sharp wit kept everyone on their toes and brightened all of the lives he touched. He enjoyed collecting and running model trains, playing golf, and in his later years, hunting for golf balls. Art was a regular patron at a local coffee shop, the JitterBug, where he had many close friends.
Shirley and her family would like to send their thanks to the many friends, neighbors, and Summit Home Health & Hospice Care for making things easier during this difficult time.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 22nd at 11am at Memorial Estates Mortuary located at 5850 South 900 East in Murray. Immediately afterwards, graveside services will be held at 1pm at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park located at 17111 South Camp Williams Road (1700 West).
