Earl Leonard Wright, our stalwart patriarch and friend, died peacefully of causes incident to age on August 16, 2007, in Salt Lake City
The oldest child of Leonard and Hedvig Fransson Wright, Dad was born July 13, 1916, in Ogden, UT, where he lived until he attended the University of Wisconsin. He married Laura Neilson in Ogden on October 7, 1939. Sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, October 7, 1966. Mom died on March 21, 2004. Devoted to his Savior as a member of the LDS Church, he caringly served in numerous callings as well as in the temple, while always finding great satisfaction in being a home teacher to his friends and neighbors. He spent most of his working life as a salesman serving the mining and utility industries, and completed his career working for the RC Willey Home Furnishing Company.
Dad loved to be with his family, to fish and golf, and remained competitive on the golf course into his 80's. We are grateful that his example to us in life was never different from the way he played golf: stay in the middle of the fairway, follow the rules and practice good etiquette, count every stroke, enjoy the game and those with whom you play. Many have told us that Dad was one of the most honest men they knew. Thank you, Dad.
Dad found great joy in his posterity and rejoiced in their many successes. Just seeing his grandchildren and great-grand children brought him much enjoyment in his later years.
Survived by daughter, Pat (Bill) Child, serving an LDS Mission at the Washington DC Temple visitor's center, and sons, Steve (Linda) of Syracuse, and Jim (Kris) of South Jordan, and one brother, Jack, of Ogden. Dad also has 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, plus many loving spouses that he and Mom considered as their own, and numerous nephews and nieces whom he dearly loved.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Ted/Norma Wright, sister and brother-in-law, Marva/Bill Sheppard and sister- in-law, Mildred Wright. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 12:00 Noon at the Cottonwood 14th Ward, 2080 East Donelson Lane (5165 South), SLC. Viewing Monday, Aug. 20th, 6-8 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., SLC. And at the church Tuesday morning 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
We thank Dad's many friends, as well as the doctors and other medical caregivers and staff who have served him during the past few years. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com.
