Edith Pickett Tripp

Edith Pickett Tripp of Monroe, Utah died September 11,2023 at home in Monroe, Utah. She was born December 26, 1926 at Gunnison, Utah to John Earl Pickett and Lettie Laverne Stevens Pickett. She spent all of her childhood in Gunnison, except for long periods of treatment and surgeries at Primary Childrens Hospital for osteomyelitis. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School and L. D. S. Business College.
She married Ross Reynold Tripp August 28, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Despite negative medical expectations, she became the mother of Larry Reynold Tripp, Aleath Edith Tripp Nichols, Darrell Tripp, Christopher John Tripp and Lucinda Laverne Tripp Kent. Ross and Edith lived in Lehi, White City and other Utah towns before buying property and building a house in Riverton, Utah. Edith served in the Jordan River Temple and after Ross retired, Ross and Edith served as missionaries in the Dallas, Texas Temple. They lived in Arizona for a while before returning to central Utah. They lived in Sigurd before settling in Monroe.
Edith was an excellent seamstress, as well as talented in all needle crafts such as crochet, knitting, embroidery and quilting. She sewed beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. Edith also liked oil painting, beading and other crafts.
She worked in the office at Hi-land Dairy and was co-owner of Daddy’s Little Princess dress company. She also sewed canvas carpenter aprons and other goods for the Tripp Family Enterprises. Edith was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society organizations.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, infant son, Darrell, sisters: Larue Peterson Hugoe, Celia Jensen, Julina Christensen, Beryl Christensen and brothers: V Owen Pickett, John David Pickett, Keith Pickett and Newell A. Pickett. She is survived by her children: Larry Tripp of Homer, Alaska, Aleath (Craig) Nichols of West Jordan, Utah, Chris Tripp (Anna) of Dayton, Idaho and Cindy Kent (Bill, deceased) of Monroe, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
A viewing for family members will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah. Following the viewing, the family will gather for a brief service. She will be laid to rest at the Riverton City Cemetery, 1500 West 13200 South in Riverton.
