Edna "Eda Lue / Ed" Lucille Walters

Born to Robert Lorenzo Phillips and Edna Lucille (Morris) Phillips in Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up with 2 brothers, Bob & Dick, and 1 sister, Mary, she was never alone. When she was younger, her family called her Eda Lue, a nickname she kept until after marriage. She loved spending her childhood hunting and fishing with her family. At her Junior Harvest Ball in 1958, Eda Lue met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Michael L. Walters. Together, they graduated from Cyprus High School in 1959. After high school, Eda Lue worked at Western Paper Co., where she was the best box packer in the factory. She and Michael married on October 9, 1964, in Granger, UT.

Around the time they moved to South Dakota, she stopped going by Eda Lue, and started going by Ed. Throughout her life, Ed blessed everyone around her with smiles, love, a sassy little laugh, and a would always say “just call me ‘Ed.’” During Mike’s time in the Air Force, they were stationed and lived together in South Dakota, Spain, New Mexico, England, Colorado, and back home in Kearns, Utah, where they finally settled for the rest of their lives together. Traveling the world with Mike was one of her favorite life experiences, but nothing meant more to her than raising her family. As a mom of 3 busy boys - Troy, Chad, and Ajay - she was always running around from school events to sports. Ed was an incredible artist who loved to draw, take photos, create hundreds of scrapbooks, color, be creative, and spend time in her yard and garden. Ed was a fighter. She fought and beat breast cancer in 1987 and was proud to be a breast cancer survivor - so much so that she got a tattoo of the breast cancer ribbon just above her ankle.

For as long as everyone can remember, until her last days, she was concerned about making everyone else feel at home. The first thing she’d say to anyone who came over “Make yourself comfortable, can I get you something?” She was always more concerned about making sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of, even her nurses and aids.

Ed passed peacefully at home while holding Mike’s hand while their miniature Australian Sheepdog, Cooper, lay by her bed. She is survived by her husband, Mike; her sons, Troy, Chad (Kim), and Ajay; her 8 granddaughters, 4 great-grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; her mother, Edna; her siblings, Bob Phillips, Mary Lott, and Dick Phillips; and her daughter-in-law, Monica Walters.

The family would like to thank the First Choice Home Health & Hospice team, specifically Nurses: Morgan, Michelle, Leanne, Jordan, Aids: Becca, April, Marissa, PT: Trustin, Social Worker: Bailey, for the love and care provided to Ed in her last months. Without you, her final weeks and days would not have been as peaceful as they were.
