Elaine "Lanie" Wassmer

March 27, 1939 — January 26, 2024

Elanie (Lanie) Wassmer left the warm arms of many loved ones January 26, 2024. After a surprising diagnosis, she was surrounded by love, her favorite foods, pink twinkling lights, and country music.  She was brave and accepting of the journey she would be taking, she showed grace, resilience and kindness. She left us behind and jumped into the arms of her sweet husband Marvin and family with much anticipation. Our hearts are full of joy for their sweet reunion.

Elaine was born on March 27, 1939, in Escalante, Utah to James Keith Rowe, and Edna Allen Rowe. After her parents’ death, she and her young siblings were adopted by William Henry and Ada Chace, and later Joan Reit Chace. She married Marvin Donald Wassmer September 6, 1957, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had two children, Suzanne and Jeffrey. Elaine was an exceptional person, an avid reader, a great cook, a great decorator, polished, smart, kind and adaptable She was also a talented seamstress. Elaine loved meeting and serving others, this was truly her love language!  She left us all feeling we were her favorite. For years she worked side-by-side with Marvin in scouting, as a den mother and showed her love by sewing on countless merit badges. She held many church positions; we fondly remember collating and stapling the monthly ward newsletter she produced. Elaine would do everything to the best of her ability. She wanted the effort she put into something to show her love and care no matter how insignificant it was. She loved the beauty she saw in everyone, always finding the good.  She loved unconditionally.

Elaine worked in many positions throughout her career. Everything she gave was larger than life. She was always willing to learn and adapt to whatever the environment was. She had a successful wedding catering business for years. Her family spent many nights putting together wedding flowers and catering menus. She was incredibly talented.

Lanie lived most of her life in Salt Lake City Utah, but for over 15 years called the Virginia Peninsula, Yorktown, home where she had many friends.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne Unsworth (Dan) of St George Utah; Jeffrey D. Wassmer (Corinne) of Yorktown Virginia; sisters Joyce McVey and Janice Chace; six grandchildren, their spouses, and 11 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband Marvin, brothers Eugene Chace, and Jerry Rowe.
