Eldon W. Winterton

Eldon W Winterton, 92, passed away on March 20, 2026. A longtime resident of Roosevelt and Salt Lake City, Utah, he was born in Heber City, Utah, on May 31, 1933, to Van Delos Winterton and Nida Willoughby Winterton. He had a deep love for family and a passion for music and learning.

Eldon grew up in Roosevelt, Utah, where he enjoyed riding horses and helping run the family cattle ranch with his brothers, Don and Keith. He had a beautiful singing voice and participated in many musicals and plays in Roosevelt and Salt Lake City. Music brought him great joy, and he shared this talent as a member of the Legacy Choir, America West Choir, and the Jay Welch Chorale. One of his favorite activities was singing duets with his beloved wife, Jeannie. They shared a lifelong love of music, and their home was often filled with song. He had a passion for photography and generously shared his talent by capturing bridal and wedding photos for many couples beginning their own journeys together. Eldon was an avid reader and book collector and demonstrated a lifelong curiosity and love of learning.

Eldon met the love of his life, Jean Goodrich, during the summer of 1953. She faithfully waited for him while he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission. Upon returning home, Eldon and Jean were married on October 31, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple.

He began his career as a land surveyor working with the Ute Tribe. Known for his knowledge, precision, and strong work ethic, he earned deep respect in his field. Over the years, he worked on numerous surveying projects, some taking him as far as Saudi Arabia. He spent many years with Olympus Aerial Surveys, Inc. before retiring.

Eldon is survived by his children: Julie (Patrick) Waldyn; Dale G (Kelari) Winterton; Susan (Donovan) Wilkerson; and Scott G (Victoria) Winterton; 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane Cook Galloway; and sister-in-law Bobbi Wayman Winterton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Van Delos and Nida Willoughby Winterton; his parents-in-law, Earl Byron and Maude Woolley Goodrich; his wife, Jean Goodrich Winterton; his son, Alan G Winterton; brothers, Don W Winterton and Keith W Winterton; an infant sister; great-granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Connell; daughter-in-law, Jodi Lyn Mattice Winterton; sisters-in-law Vivian Lee McConkie, Anne Goodrich Daugherty, and Gwen Hollingworth; and brothers-in-law Ted Lee Daugherty, Graham Hollingworth, William Cook and Rod Galloway.

He will be remembered for his talents, wisdom, and the love he shared with his family.
