Our beloved mother, grandmother, and nana, Elizabeth “Belle” Farlaino, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the ripe old age of 93.
Born on March 24, 1932, in Paonia, Colorado, Belle was the daughter of Rueben H. Fluke and Edith D. Green Fluke. She married Thomas M. Farlaino, on August 20, 1950, at The Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Draper, Utah.
Belle was a retired Salt Lake City Police “Patrolman”. She proudly served as a patrol officer for many years and carried her retired badge in her wallet long after retirement as she considered herself always on duty! She deeply loved her time with the department and was proud of her service.
A woman of many talents, Nana was a gifted artist, an accomplished woodcarver, painter, and sketch artist. Self-taught and determined, she used carving tools handcrafted by her father from chisels to mallets! Her beautiful handiwork, a skill she inherited from her mother, was admired by many. She lovingly made slippers for the entire family, along with dishcloths and doilies. She was a beautiful seamstress and could sew almost anything without using a pattern.
After Tom’s passing, Belle joined the Utah Campers & RV’ers, affectionately known as the “Pack Rats.” She traveled independently throughout Utah and Colorado in her truck and camper well into her golden years, embracing adventure with spirit and strength.
She loved her family with her whole heart, and once you met Belle, you never forgot her.
Belle is survived by her devoted daughter, Sheryl (Mike) Thompson; grandchildren Dallas (Shancey), Brock (Savannah), and Candace Thompson; and great-grandchildren Tatum, Taylie “Belle,” Aiden, and Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Tom.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
She was a sassy gal, her sassiness drove her passions in life, and her personality!
In lieu of flowers, give your "nana" a hug!
