Ellen Wilma Grow

March 5, 1934 — February 5, 2024

Our beloved Mother, Ellen Wilma Henriod Grow, left us peacefully on February 5, 2024. Born March 5, 1934 to Gustave and Wilma Henriod in White Pine County, Ely, Nevada. Ellen married her life-long love, John LaVier Grow in 1950. In 1972 they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three children, Betty Lou, John DeWayne and JoAnna.

Ellen was extremely intelligent, graduating at the age of 16 from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada.

She came from an unusually large family and was very close to her eleven siblings. Family meant everything to Ellen, instilling this belief system in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Ellen meticulously planned huge family reunions for the Henriod family. These family gatherings created a strong bond with the extended family and are still fondly remembered by the cousins to this day.

She was a devoted sister and mother. When her mother passed away in 1977, she took in her youngest sister, Linda Henriod, who was challenged with Down's Syndrome and vision problems. Ellen took loving care of Linda over four decades until Linda passed away.

Ellen was a wonderful homemaker who kept herself busy with PTA, Relief Society, Young Womens, Den Mother, volunteering at the elementary school, working with the Women's Legislative Council, and the Local Emergency Preparedness Planning Committee.

Her love language was cooking and what a wonderful cook she was! She loved giving and gathering the entire family every Sunday for home cooked fixings. She made this a family tradition until the family grew to a point where it was too large to manage.

She will be dearly missed by her surviving family, her children, John DeWayne Grow (Lezlee), JoAnna Shiflett; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Judith Leon and Kathleen Corbett; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, John LaVier Grow, parents Gustave and Wilma Lee Henriod, daughter Betty Lou, and siblings Virginia "Sis" Taylor, Josephine "Jo" McIntosh (Mac), Beatrice "Bea" Fullerton (Alex), Hazel Bennett (Gene), Marian Ragsdale, Gustave "Sonny" Henriod, Carol Martinez, Gerald Henriod, and Linda Henriod.

Our family would like to acknowledge those who lovingly cared for Ellen in her last years here on Earth and thank those who have shown her such love. From bringing her the Sacrament on Sundays, the wonderful care givers, gifts of puzzles that kept pouring in, and, we can not forget the occasional order of onion rings.
