Elmer Rick Jones 78, of Mesquite, Nevada passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 5, 2026 in St. George, Utah. Rick was born to Elmer and Sheila Jones on October 28, 1947 in Ely, Nevada.
He graduated from American Fork High School where he excelled in football and baseball. Rick loved racing cars, he was an excellent mechanic, and spent a lot of his youth honing his skills. He went on to graduate from Utah Trade Tech and attained an Associates Degree.
He worked at Eimac/Varian for over 30 years as a Punch Press Manager. He played competitive softball for many years, and was a great coach and excellent pitcher. He married the love of his life MarLene Pettingill on February 17,1973. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He raised his family in Bountiful, Utah. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved to boat with his family.
Rick stopped playing softball at 50 and picked up a golf club. He loved being outdoors spending time with friends and family, and always looked forward to his annual golf trips with the boys. In 2001 Rick made a career change and moved to Mesquite, Nevada to become the Resort Manager of Masters Villas. Rick loved people and particularly the staff he was able to work with. He retired from Masters Villas in 2018.
He was a skilled bowler, and served on various HOA boards. He was heavily involved in the community. Whether at church or the bakery down the street, he was a friend to all, and those that knew him became family. In his final hours many friends and colleagues came to pay their respects. He spent a lifetime serving others and loved each person individually. He was an incredible husband to his sweetheart MarLene. His selfless love and devotion to her was unmatched and has been admired by those who were privileged to witness. He was an amazing grandfather, whether it was playing barbies, kitchen, football, the guessing game, or taking them on rides in the golf cart family was all that mattered. In his final hours with his family around him he said, “This is what it’s all about!”. He truly lived by that statement.
He is survived by his wife MarLene Jones sister Dianne Kay Herron, Children- Donnie Jones (Lisa), Kristi Lyn Jones Case (Charles), Cindy Hayes, CoLene Wood (Brian), Bob Hayes (Marie), Mark Hayes (Tawnya). He has 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and another on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Tom and Jodi. He has many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A viewing will be held from 10am-12:15pm, followed by a funeral service at 1pm on January 17, 2026 at the Mueller Park LDS Chapel located at 1825 South 800 East, Bountiful, UT 84010. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
We find comfort in knowing that Rick’s legacy lives on through the love that he shared and the memories that we will cherish forever.
