Elna “Elaine” Hampshire Jones

Elna “Elaine” Hampshire Jones, age 87, passed away on May 20, 2023, in the presence of her family.
Born December 19, 1935 in Mohrland, Utah to Richard and Nita Hampshire. She grew up in the coal mining town of Hiawatha. She attended Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant and moved to Salt Lake City upon graduation. In 1957, she earned her nursing degree from Westminster College. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Martin F. Jones, and they had two children, John (Cindy) and Maxine (Mike).
Her greatest joy was her three grandchildren, Jared Jones, Brandon Jones, and Danika Ishida. She never missed a school performance or sports activity that her grandchildren were involved in.
Elaine worked as a registered nurse for 43 years, with most of her career spent at St. Mark’s Hospital. She was a skilled and knowledgeable nurse-who loved caring for her patients.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, and her grandson, Tyler. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Mick Jones, sister-in-law, Sarah Cornia, many nieces and nephews, and her faithful four-legged companion, Luna.
We will always remember her homemade bread, holiday sugar cookies, birthday person’s special dinner, beautiful piano playing ability, and infamous April Fool’s Day pranks. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but she will live forever in our hearts.
Our family wishes to thank the many special people (especially Heather, Melissa, Haley, Jessica, and Tirzah) at Inspiration who provided such amazing love and care to Elaine and also her wonderful friends, Barbara Holsten and Sue Pechina, for making life fun.  A graveside service will take place on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Memorial Holladay Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah 84117.
