Elvira Elfriede Luise Wille Perschon, peacefully passed away on September 7, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Elvira will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her service to others, and the love she shared with everyone she met.
Elvira was born on March 14, 1935, in Hannover, Germany, to Willhelm K.H. (Willi) Wille and Alma E. Bahe. She grew up in Germany during World War II and immigrated to Utah in 1953 with her parents and family. At just 18 years old, and without knowing English, she quickly learned the language and customs while working in a bakery. Her determination, friendliness, and warmth left a lasting impression on those around her.
It was soon after her arrival that she met Albert F. Perschon, who was on leave from his service in the Korean War. While Albert later served a mission in Switzerland, Elvira faithfully wrote to him. Upon his return, they became engaged and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1957.
Together, Elvira and Albert raised six children in Millcreek, Holladay, and Midway, Utah. Elvira worked for Granite School District in food service, retiring in 1997 as manager of the Cottonwood High School cafeteria. She was known for her hard work, generosity, and ability to make everyone feel cared for.
Elvira and Albert loved traveling with their family and, later, as a couple. From road trips along the West Coast to cruises, Alaska adventures, and travels through Europe, they made countless memories together. Fishing, cooking, and gathering with family and friends were among their greatest joys.
Proud of her German heritage, Elvira often shared her culture with loved ones and even volunteered as an interpreter during the 2002 Winter Olympics. She also devoted countless hours to family history research, blessing generations with her dedication.
As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elvira served in many callings with all her heart: Young Women’s leader, Girls Camp leader, Emergency Preparedness chair, Ward Dinner chair, Primary teacher, Cub Scout leader, and temple worker. She was especially known for her cinnamon rolls at Swiss Days and the many homemade treats she shared with neighbors and friends. Her life was one of service, hospitality, and devotion.
In 2005–2006, Elvira and Albert served a mission together at Martin’s Cove in Wyoming. In recent years, they made their home at Summit Senior Assisted Living in South Jordan, where Elvira continued to lovingly care for Albert as they both faced health challenges.
Elvira is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Albert Perschon, and their six children: Rodney (Nancy) Perschon, Rosi (Werner) Haidenthaller, Myron (Karma) Perschon, Lucinda (David) Fischer, Danette (Larry) Horkley, and Rochelle Perschon. She leaves behind 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, her sister Baerbel Wille, her brother Wilford Wille, a brother and sister-in-law, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson-in-law, Eric Peterson.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Elvira’s legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in her family and in all those blessed to know her.
