Emil Otto Amann Jr.

July 26, 1928 — May 3, 2025

Emil “Mick” Otto Amann Jr., beloved husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 96.

Emil was born on July 26, 1928, in West New York, New Jersey, to Emil Otto Amann Sr. and Johanna Magdalena Dupper. His parents immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1923 and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, around 1935. From an early age, Emil embodied hard work and determination. He shined shoes at age 13 and worked slicing bread at Dunford Bakery while attending Granite High School, where he graduated in 1946. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic. It was in the Navy that he picked up the nickname “Mick.”

Emil could fix just about anything and was often found working on his cars or helping neighbors with a variety of fixes and repairs. He later applied those same skills working for several freight companies, eventually retiring from P.I.E. Trucking.

Emil has a deep love for the outdoors and a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, camping, riding dirt bikes, and restoring vintage Model A cars. Several weeks each summer were spent at Yellowstone National Park, fishing for trout on Yellowstone Lake, getting ice cream at Old Faithful Lodge, viewing wildlife, and visiting the sites.

Emil loved the excitement of flying airplanes (including the one he built), riding his 1955 Harley Davidson Flat Head, and driving his 1975 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Mick was known for his quick wit and humor – he kept everyone guessing whether he was serious or joking. He had a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand, and faithfully served in many church callings over the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Amann, who passed just ten months before him, and by his sisters Johanna Tolman (Grant), Esther McFarlane (Veryl), and Christa Kinsey (Jack).

Emil is survived by brothers, Kent Amann, Arthur Amann, his sons; Michael Amann (Kenya), Steven Amann (Melodie), Robert Amann, and his daughters; Vicki Scott (Bill), Diane Colby (Henry), and Kari Johnson.

Now reunited with his sweetheart, we can only imagine the joy of their heavenly reunion. Emil’s story will continue in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His memory will be cherished, and he will be missed beyond measure. Until we meet again, Pops!
