Emily Jean Whitney Keddington peacefully passed away at home on January 26, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 84.
Jean was born on June 19, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Charles Byron and Lillian Russell Whitney. When Jean was eight years old her mother passed away, leaving behind eight children. Jean and several of her siblings eventually went to live in the home of their aunt and uncle, Emily Whitney Smith and Winslow Farr Smith, two angels on earth. After graduation from East High School, Jean attended The University of Southern California and Brigham Young University where a handsome, young musician performing in an entertainment assembly caught her eye. She and Lloyd Keddington had attended East High School together. An old friendship was renewed and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 1, 1947. Jean and Lloyd have four daughters: Carol Keddington, Kay Lawrence (Brent), Anne Pays, and Joan Nichols (Martin); seven grandchildren: Aaron, Matthew, Adam (Lisa), Ashley, Carolyn, Amanda and Kyle; and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Sydney, Jaida and Abbie. Jean is survived by two sisters: Nancy Scharman and Marion Wells.
Lloyd's career gave them the opportunity to live all over the country and Jean loved every move as she was able to see new places and meet new friends. They spent many happy years in the Portland, Oregon area where they enjoyed many close friendships.
Jean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she gave many hours of service. She was a skilled and dedicated homemaker and mother, with a love for beautiful music, theater, traveling, good books, and entertaining friends. She will be remembered for her unending patience and her tender, sympathetic and generous heart.
Services will be held on Monday, February 1, at 12 noon at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 East. Friends and family are invited to call from 10:45 to 11:45 AM prior to the service. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Online condolences to the family can be sent at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
