Eric Lynn Jones

September 29, 1967 — October 26, 2025

West Jordan

Eric Lynn Jones, 58, of West Jordan, Utah, passed away on October 26, 2025, doing what he loved most—adventuring. Born on September 29, 1967, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard Lynn and Catherine Gray Jones. He married his best friend, Leia-Britt Rundquist, on November 8, 2008. Eric was a man whose life was defined by his passion for exploration, kindness, and lifelong learning.

A dedicated student, Eric graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and went on to earn both a bachelor’s degree in English and an MBA from the University of Utah. He loved learning and reading, never ceasing to expand his knowledge and horizons.

Eric served with honor in the Army National Guard’s 19th Group Special Forces, retiring as a Major in 2024, and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003. His service was a testament to his character and commitment to others. Eric served an LDS mission in Dearborn, Michigan, from 1987 to 1989.

Eric’s adventurous spirit took him across the globe and throughout the United States. He visited all 50 states, as well as exploring Europe, Mexico, Egypt, China, Canada, Bermuda, and Italy. An avid hiker, he climbed countless mountains and relished activities like rock and ice climbing, canyoneering, and camping, always seeking new adventures in the great outdoors, a true lifelong passion.

More than anything, Eric was known for his big heart—kind, thoughtful, and endlessly giving. His kindness touched everyone he met, and his spirit of generosity and compassion left a lasting impression.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Leia; his mother; sister Cathy (Michael) Gettings; brothers Craig, Keith (Kathy), Russell (Tracie), and Gary (Brittany); mother-in-law Gundl Rundquist; many cherished nieces and nephews; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father; brother Stephen Mark; and sister Shauna (Regan) Miles.

Eric’s life was a testament to adventure, kindness, and a deep love for others. His absence leaves a void impossible to fill, but his spirit lives on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known him. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held November 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Estates Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He will be laid to rest at the Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery.
