Erland Hans Reber

November 29, 1936 — January 23, 2026

Holladay

Erland Hans Reber, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in the loving care of his family, on January 23, 2026. He lived a full and joyful life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service. His kindness, humor, and larger than life personality, leaves a void that will forever be cherished.

Erland was born at home in Salt Lake City on November 29, 1936, to Anna Broome and Hans Paul Reber. He was proud to be born into a German speaking home and grew up in the Cannon Stake. He attended West High School, where he enjoyed participation in basketball and football. After graduating in 1955, he attended the University of Utah and served an LDS mission to West Germany from 1957-1959. This was a cherished experience that deepened his faith and ability to connect with people.

As a young man, Erland began working for KSL, sparking a lifelong passion for broadcasting and technology. Later, he worked for 3M, Skaggs Telecommunications, and eventually founded his own business, Visual Technology, a broadcast and engineering sales company that served the Western United States. His success in business came naturally, rooted in his genuine love of people, his quick humor, and ability to connect with anyone he met.

On May 12 1961, Erland married Sharlene Nunley, the love of his life, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a beautiful home filled with laughter, faith, and countless family adventures which included fishing, hunting, golfing, and skiing at Lake Powell. And don’t forget the hours spent playing cards! Erland and Sharlene were blessed with five children, who were the center of Erland’s world. He took great pride in his family and spent countless hours coaching their youth baseball, basketball, and football teams. When he wasn’t coaching, he never missed an opportunity to cheer his kids on, whether it be a pageant or a volleyball match. His children remember him as an endlessly supportive, patient, and dedicated father who truly gave his life in service for them. Erland was a Utah Jazz fan and both a BYU and Utah fan. It didn’t matter who was playing, he loved a good game.

Erland was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found joy serving in the Salt Lake Temple for 17 years and serving a second mission in 2008-2010 to Nauvoo, Illinois with Sharlene. Erland served in the mission presidency in Nauvoo and upon returning, also served as the Branch President of Holladay Healthcare from 2011-2013. Erland had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and enjoyed the friendships he made through his church service.

Erland is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Norman Reber (Bonnie), and sister Inge Peterson (Gary). He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharlene, and their five children, Stephanie Richards (Jon), his twins, Darin Reber (Leslie) and David Reber (Brenda), Rick Reber (Jen), Stacie Johnson (Blake), sister, Judy Hoag (Will), brother in law, Jim Nunley (Jo Ann), brother in law, Frank Nunley, and sister-in-law, Ruth Nunley (Bob). He took great pride in his posterity, proudly boasting 24 grandchildren and 9 1/2 great-grandchildren.
