Ernest H. Salt Jr

Ernest H. Salt Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 7, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to E. Howard Salt and Ivie Lambourne Salt. On May 25, 1949 he married Gwendolyn Parr in the Salt Lake Temple. She died March 17, 1995.

As a member of the LDS Church, he served in many positions. Ernest was a World War II veteran with service in Germany. He graduated from the College of Education at the University of Utah. On December 30, 1972, he retired from the three Federal Government entities comprising his civil service career.

Ernest enjoyed still life and landscape painting with oils, photography and traveling. He especially enjoyed his many retirement years and his low profile everyday life with his constant companion and precious sweetheart. In his later years, he loved to share his fresh garden produce with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his children: Maureen (Charles) Hewlett, Lynette (Leonard) Feil, Jeffrey P. (Janene) Salt, and Gregory L. (Grace) Salt; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden Heights South Ward, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 So.), where friends and family can visit 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
