Eva Jantje Vankomen Niesen

Eva Jantje VanKomen Niesen, age 93, died April 22, 2023 in Holladay, Utah. She was born on July 3, 1929, in Groningen, Netherlands to Willem and Kornelia Sierdina VanKomen. She married Hans Niesen in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 14, 1952, and later divorced January 9, 1990.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many ward and stake positions. She served three missions, was an avid genealogist, responsible for bringing thousands to Christ. She worked tirelessly for years translating Dutch letters into a book: Letters to Amerika. She was a past member of the Oratorio Society of Utah, performing in the Tabernacle at Temple Square, Capitol Theatre and throughout Israel. She loved singing! She performed in several stake musicals and roadshows.
Mom was a world-class cook! She fed everyone from diplomats to next-door neighbors. Her food brought people together. She was also a talented quilter, making hundreds of quilts and gifting one to everyone that had, or would ever have a baby!
If you were lucky to have met her, you became her friend, she would then search to see if your genealogy was done and to see if she was related to you. If you hadn’t started, she would start it for you and gift you with binders of names! Family was everything to her.
She is survived by children: Diana Vilardo, Celeste (Bruce) Spradling, Audrey (Jim) Matthews, Howard (Laurie) Niesen, and Michael Niesen; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne VanKomen. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willem and Kornelia VanKomen; siblings: Nantje, Willem, Henny, Hendrick “Henk”, Jantiena “Tinie”, Pouwel, Kornelis “Kory”, Heijkiena, and Marie; granddaughters, Natalie and Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Kayson and Alisha.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the Winder 11th Ward Building, 951 East 3825 South, Millcreek, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
