Evelyn Hubbard Banks

April 18, 1946 — September 9, 2023

In Loving Memory of Evelyn Hubbard Banks
Evelyn Hubbard Banks, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away in her home on September 9, 2023.  She was surrounded by her loving family and husband of 55 years, Eugene Wilson Banks, as she peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal calling with our Father in Heaven.  Her departure has left a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Born on April 18, 1946 to Robert and Aileen Hubbard, Evelyn grew up on a farm in the small town of Soda Springs Idaho, with two older sisters and three brothers. While Evelyn gained a deep appreciation for family values and hard work on the farm, she always considered herself a “city girl” that could not be confined. Evelyn loved to travel and rarely sat still!
Evelyn met her husband Eugene Wilson Banks at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Evelyn had attended BYU-Hawaii the semester before and instantly fell in love with Hawaii, the people and their culture.  When she returned to BYU Provo, Evelyn joined the Polynesian Club where she met Eugene, a handsome Hawaiian who literally swept Evelyn off her feet.  After two weeks of dating, he bought Evelyn a ring and they were married in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple on April 3, 1968.
As a devoted mother, Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her eight children.  She poured her heart into raising them, instilling in each of them the values of service, compassion, determination and living a healthy, active lifestyle.  But above all, Evelyn possessed unwavering faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and lived her life accordingly, serving as an example to her family.
As her children got older, Evelyn continued to keep everyone connected, by hosting holiday get-togethers, Sunday dinners, and other family celebrations. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her family, including their most recent adventure to the Caribbean with 55 family members where Evelyn swam with Manta Rays and snorkeled in the crystal clear waters of the Cayman Islands.  Evelyn and Eugene also enjoyed traveling with Rotary International when Eugene retired from Merrill Lynch.  They visited China, India, Cambodia and Africa doing everything from digging a fish farm to giving out eyeglasses.  When Evelyn was not busy traveling, she spent her free time gardening, attending health and nutrition workshops, learning about eastern medicine and studying gospel principles.
In addition to attending and supporting events for her 8 children, 29 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Evelyn generously shared her time and talents serving within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She worked in the Temple weekly for many years.  Evelyn especially enjoyed her time as a service missionary with Eugene. They served as Church Educational System Missionaries for the University of Utah. Their next opportunity was serving as counselors in the Salt Lake City, East Mission.  But her most memorable calling was sharing the gospel with homeless youth serving time in Detention Centers. Their stories touched Evelyn deeply.
Evelyn’s passion for life shone through her commitment to her family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She will forever be remembered as a strong, fearless, and self-less mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who believed in loving and serving unconditionally.
We thank those who assisted so kindly in caring for Evelyn in her last months, including Kaylani Naluai, Jen Bradshaw and her grandson Joshua Spencer.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Eugene Wilson Banks: children: Tiffany (Chauncey) Pa, Trent (Susan) Banks, Nicole Banks, Tyler (Jerriann) Banks, Troy (Barbara) Banks, Rochelle (Ryan) Richards, Trevor (Kamber) Banks, Tiare (James) Kelly, 29 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
