Fern Christensen Jewkes, 87, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father, Sunday October 22nd 2023.
Fern was born July 29, 1936 in Antimony, Utah to Robert Emeron Christensen and Lily Johnson Christensen. She was the oldest of 7 children.
Fern attended Murray High School. It was there that she met her sweetheart and love of her life Kenneth Albert Jewkes. They were married on December 3rd, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were given a miraculous 54 years together – which was a gift beyond expectations due to Ken’s many health challenges. He passed away in 2009.
Ken and Fern brought 8 children into the world and loved their big family. Mom and dad cherished the time with each of their 30 grandchildren and 50 plus great-grandchildren. Mom spent hours worrying and fussing over each one of them. They affectionately called her Mimi.
Mom loved being a homemaker and could run circles around everyone who knew her. She worked tirelessly to make a wonderful home for Ken and their 8 children. Mom loved to be in the kitchen and was an excellent cook, baker, and candy maker.
Mom and Dad never missed an opportunity to serve others. Mom took as many meals and special treats to others as she fixed for her own family. They also helped many of their family members and friends over the years when they were in need and were always generous in their giving.
Mom knew and loved her Savior Jesus Christ. Her faith and earnest prayers kept her receiving blessing after blessing as her needs arose being a widow. Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings including Primary President, Temple Worker at the Jordan River Temple, and serving in the Legacy Care Center Branch Presidency with Ken to name a few.
Mom and dad lived in Sandy, Utah for 30 plus years and left many great friends when they moved to the Cornerstone condominiums in South Jordan in 1996. They lived there together up until Ken’s death, and then mom carried on alone for the past 14 years.
Mom recently moved into the River Meadows Assisted Living Center in Alpine, Utah in July of this year. We as a family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all the devoted and caring healthcare providers at River Meadows as well as the Bristol Hospice workers, who took such good care of her. We are also grateful and appreciate the many other caregivers, family members, friends, and neighbors, who over the years have selflessly served mom with their many acts of loving kindness.
