Filiberto “Jappies” Lopez

March 1, 1958 — March 1, 2021

Filbert A. Lopez, 63, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2021 in Kearns, UT. Filbert was born on March 1, 1958 in El Rito, NM to Cleotilda “Teve” and Jose “Torri” Lopez. He married Denise C. Lovato April 1976 a union that produced three boys. He later married Carol A. Johnson June 30, 1984 a union that awarded him 2 stepchildren.
Filbert was a simple man. He loved everyone around him especially his most inner circle. He was most content in the great outdoors—whether it be fishing, just driving to take in the scenery, to camping—if it was outdoors, he was all in. Filbert’s introduction to horses at a young age would turn into a lifelong passion. He often referred to horses as a contradiction of beauty and sadness. He had expressed there was no greater sight than a herd of wild mustangs at a full run—free as the day they were born—but the horse with beauty unsurpassed, strength immeasurable and grace unlike any other, still remained humble enough to carry a man upon it’s back.
Filbert was rich in life, where most men fall short. He lived life on his terms. He loved with all his heart and in return was loved by all those whose lives’ he touched. His best advice was, “Expect the unexpected and whenever possible, be the unexpected.”
Filbert is survived by his children Filiberto “Junior” (Lola) Lopez, Jamie (Tom) Taylor, Isaac (Sami) Lopez, Robert (Dannette) Lopez, Justin (Lacey) Ta, Justice (Drew) Faulhaber. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents. Siblings, Diana Lopez, Jose “Shorty” Lopez, Lorraine Lemuse. Grandson’s, Marico Lopez and Matthew Lopez.
