Flora Geraldine Sanchez

Jun 29, 1959 — Aug 10, 2026

Tooele, Utah

Gerry Sanchez, 67, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away at her home in Tooele, on August 10th, 2026.

Gerry was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 29th, 1959. She was immediately adopted by Samuel and Ophelia (Opal) Sanchez and brought to Utah to start her life with her new mother, father, and big brother, Mike. Gerry grew up in West Valley City, Utah and attended Granger High School where she met and married Robert Griffin and had two beloved sons, Robert Griffin Jr, and Joseph Griffin Sr.

Gerry treated life like an adventure and loved the joy of sharing it with others. She often reminisced about camping trips, traveling to Mexico to go boogie-boarding with her boys, spending time at Disney, and taking a cruise with her group of friends.

Among other talents, Gerry was well known in her community for her cooking and hospitality, and her ability to make others laugh. No matter what trials she was facing, she had an incredible ability to show up for anyone who needed love, support, a good meal, or a spare room.

She showed that same generous spirit and her attention to care through her work with the VA, opening her home to a disabled veteran as a caregiver and companion, and spoke fondly of that time. Later, she devoted herself to the end-of-life care of both her parents, Opal and Sam.

Gerry loved her family fiercely and was overjoyed when she became a grandma to seven wonderful grandkids and, eventually, a great-grandma to three of the cutest little ones ever. She delighted in telling stories about her boys and would brag about them and their amazing children every time she got the chance.

She always made time to connect with cousins, aunts, and uncles, and took joy in reconnecting with her biological siblings and their families. She took great pride in learning about her roots and finding the missing pieces of her family tree. But Gerry’s idea of family extended far beyond blood. In her later years, she spent much of her time with a special group of women from church, whom she considered as close as sisters. She loved them deeply and cherished the time they spent together.

She is preceded by her parents, Ophelia Sanchez and Samuel Sanchez, her brother Michael Sanchez, and her birth mother, Juanita Atencio. She is survived by her sons, Robert Griffin Jr. (Stephanie) and Joseph Griffin Sr. (Kristin); her grandchildren, Kayleigh, Samantha, Sarah, Shannon, Marilynn, Megan, and Joseph Jr.; her great-grandchildren; and her dog, Bandit.

In honor of Gerry’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of services, her family invites those who knew her to share fond stories and photos as a way to remember her and say goodbye.
