Floyd "Pete" Alden Petersen

d. January 29, 2010

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's disease on January 29, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Floyd, age 75, was born January 24, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Edgar Lorenzo and Alberta Lohmolder Petersen. He married his high school sweetheart and neighbor, Carol "Kay" Grace Bowen on December 17, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 55 years.

Floyd graduated from Granite High School in 1953 and later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in accounting and business in 1957. He began his 37-year accounting career as a CPA with Deloitte and retired in 1995 as the managing partner of the Salt Lake City office. A highlight of his career was college-campus recruiting and guest lecturing at various universities. He also ran several marathons, had a talent for sketching outdoor scenes and had a reverence for nature. Floyd was very committed to community service and participated on many charitable boards including The United Way, Utah Families Foundation, The Children's Center and many others. He was also appointed as a Special Assistant to Governor Leavitt for the state of Utah. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Floyd was a High Priest and served in many church positions. With his beloved wife he served as a temple ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple and as an inner-city missionary. Some of his other cherished accomplishments included all three children serving full-time missions and marrying in the Salt Lake Temple. Above all, Floyd enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to their annual summer family vacations.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Mark (Janice), Jayne LaFond (Bret) and Paul (ChAC.rie); and seven grandchildren, Eric (Lindsay), Emily, Benjamin, Parker, Addison, Christian and Chase; brother, Sid Petersen; sister, Kathy Bartholomew (Lee); mother-in-law, Faye Bowen and sister-in-law, Donna Sorensen (Gordon).

The family is very grateful to the care managers at the Sunrise residential care facility in Holladay for their loving care of "Pete" during his advanced stages of Alzheimer's. They are also thankful to the many family and friends who have expressed their love and concern.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either the Utah Families Foundation: 9160 South 300 West, #21, Sandy, UT 84070 or Alzheimer's Disease Research: 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950.
