Francis "Leroy" Gunnell Haslam

Roy G. Haslam was born May 5, 1929, the son of George Maughan Haslam and Kate Owen Gunnell Haslam. He spent his early life in Wellsville, Utah, and attended various schools in Cache Valley. He obtained his BS Degree in music in 1952 from Utah State University. He taught music as a public school teacher in Monticello, Utah, before entering the Air Force. While serving as an Air Force Military Police Officer in San Antonio, Texas, he met Sallie T. Smith. Roy and Sallie married December 1955 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Roy attended Law School. Roy obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah in 1958 and was admitted to the Utah State Bar. He practiced law in the state of Utah for over forty years. He was a founding partner in the law firm Biele, Haslam & Hatch, and in 1989 the law firm merged with Parsons Behle & Latimer. As a lawyer, Roy was always known as the consummate gentleman. He kept his word and expected others to do the same. He retired from private practice of law in February 2000. He founded Azteca Systems, Inc. with his nephew Brian L. Haslam, and was affectionately known as "Uncle Roy" to all employees and business partners. His steady hand, positive example, nurturing support, and companionship will be greatly missed. He was a long-time member of the Alta Club and Willow Creek Country Club. Preceded in death by his beloved brother, Alden Haslam (Marilyn), and sister, Kathleen Gale. Roy is survived by Sallie, his brother-in-law, Adrian Gale, and his nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service was held previously.
