Obituary

Francis Edward Prentice, our beloved and cherished father known for his kind and selfless outlook of life, passed way, on July 1, 2026. While fighting cancer for the second time in a year, and did so for his life, and for his family. He was born on October 30, 1935, Bradford Pennsylvania to Richard Prentice and Ila Smith. He came from a very simple and humble existence, with 4 other brothers, Fran being the middle child, he learned how to battle it out and always came out on top.

In 1955 Fran married Katherine Hulterstrom in Salt Lake City, Utah after meeting at West High school where they both attended. Fran and Kay went on to have 3 children and made their home in West Valley City. In 1987 Fran retired from Utah Power and light where he held many important positions throughout his 34 years.

Fran grew up playing many sports, excelling in Baseball, Boxing and Basketball. He also coached his son John through many years of football and basketball where they won many championships. He never missed a practice or a game and showed that eternal support to his Grandson Corey when he started playing various sports as well as encouraging Corey to start playing his favorite sport golf. He was present to many dance recitals and soccer games with his grand children and even the great grand children.

Fran was an avid golfer, finding and filling all of his spare time on the links with his family and friends. Fran and Kay have had many lifelong friends and to this day, they still keep up with them. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always the wise cracking guy in the crowd. He also took pride in keeping his yard and home in pristine condition.

He is survived by his wonderful wife Kay Prentice of 71 years. His daughter Peggy Rigby and husband Russell Rigby. Grand daughters Ashley (Randy)Forman, Lindsay Rigby. Son, John Prentice and wife Mona Prentice, and his Grandson " Little bitty buddy" Corey Prentice. His three great grand children Logan Forman, Porter Forman and Easton Bytendorp.
