Our beloved brother, uncle, and friend Frank Chavez passed away peacefully due to a sudden illness Monday morning 11/5/2018. He is preceded in death by his father Leonard Chavez, mother Flora Chavez and brother Randy Chavez and is now in their company with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Frank was born on 4/8/1952 in Tooele Utah. Due to complications at birth he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Frank had a learning disability and did not have the use of his legs. But with a strong mother, family and church support he never let his physical disabilities slow him down, he showed the world that if a person is determined and able to persevere through difficulties and maintain a positive attitude and keep a strong faith in God then nothing is impossible.
Frank attended school and went on to graduate Tooele High School in 1970. After graduating he attended a training school for the disabled where he learned technical skills that help him find work. Frank worked at Unisys assembling computers for many years. He then moved on to Columbus community center and worked there most recently.
Frank enjoyed getting out as much as possible and in his prime he traveled to many places. He went to Hawaii, took a cruise to the Bahamas; he also went on a family RV road trip to Canada just to name a few of the many places he traveled.
Frank also loved serving at his local church the Salt Lake Christian Center and was loyal to his calling as an usher and made sure that he attended as much as possible. He loved interacting with his pastor and fellow parishioners. Frank took his duties very seriously and loved serving the Lord.
Frank also went through the ranks as a “Royal Ranger” and helped support his local troop and taught young boys at his local church each week until it became too hard for him in his later years.
Throughout Frank’s time here he always maintained a great attitude and he never complained about the hand he was dealt in life. He is a true inspiration to those who saw him regularly. He enjoyed calling his aunt Rose who lives in Denver and talking about the weather and catching up on things that were going on with extended family that lives in Colorado. He loves calling his sister Margie as often as possible and talking about local and national news events. He loved visiting his immediate family during the holidays and always made sure to take home leftovers to enjoy later.
Frank loved learning about the US Military, and every year his family had to make sure to get him a new calendar that depicted fighter jets and military vehicles. Some of his favorite times were when his younger brother Randy and mom Flora would take him to see the air show at Hill Air Force Base.
If every there were a man that wanted to be a hero to others, Frank was that man. We have no doubt that if he didn’t have the physical limitations hue to his cerebral palsy that he would have been a Fire Fighter, or Police Man, or in the military as those are the types of people he looked up to and wanted to be like.
Heaven gained a true warrior when he left us and we will forever miss and cherish the times we had. Frank is survived by his sister Margie Candelaria, Nephew AJ Candelaria with his wife Leona Candelaria, Nieces Summer Bowler, Cassidy Bowler, Arionna Candelaria, Nephew Colton Bowler, and Adrien Candelaria.
