Fred P. H. Dammaschke, beloved Dad and Opa, age 86, passed away in his home on June 24, 2025, in Murray, UT, where he wanted to be. He was born on July 14, 1938, in Stettin, Germany, to Herta Ebert and Hans Dammaschke. He immigrated with his mother and four siblings to Salt Lake City in 1951.
He enlisted in the US Army to serve his Country. He served during the Vietnam War and the Cold War. He was promoted to Sargent during his service. Upon his return stateside, he worked his way up to Conductor at Rio Grande Railroads. He enjoyed waterskiing whenever possible. He
enjoyed working in his yard and gardening. He took pleasure in sightseeing and being in nature. He was loved deeply by his two children, Carla and Daniel, as well as by all his grand and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted Father and Opa.
He is survived by his daughter Carla, son Daniel (Terra) Dammaschke, 7 grandchildren – Misty, Brandy, Tayla, Ashley, Tyson, Devon, and Kaelene, 8 great-grandchildren – Kaydence, Nadeen, Cheyenne, Dakota, Angelo, Locklen, Adena, and Deson, his two sisters - Lynda (Fred) Zwick and Anne (Vern) Sisam.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Herta; his brother, Hans Dammaschke; and his sister, Adell (Frank) Aiello.
He married his first love, Mary Dammaschke, and later married his second wife, Margaret. Sadly, neither marriage lasted.
Dad, you will be Deeply Missed and Forever Loved. You will be kept in our hearts until we are united once again.
A viewing will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 PM. Funeral services to follow immediately after. The military graveside service will be at 3:00 pm at the same location.
