Fred Edwards Hodgson

October 24, 1933 — May 10, 2026

Clear and readily understandable. This is Fred Edwards. Years of
broadcast experience and documentary narration have given Fred a distinctive calm, authoritative style.

Fred was born in Utah, raised in Montana's Glacier National Park and educated in Washington, Idaho and Utah. He entered broadcasting as a radio account executive in Idaho. From sales he went to news-casting and announcing. Then on to larger stations and markets. The progression brought Fred to Salt Lake.

His ability, voice and style attracted educators, and he became Director of Educational Television for the Granite Elementary School District. In addition to directing operations he narrated the district's audio-visual presentations and gathered additional newscasting experience by moonlighting on a Salt Lake radio station.

Fred came to TV2 in 1968 as Creative Director and Staff Announcer. In the fall of 1970, when TV2 News pioneered the one hour local news format, there was no doubt as to who the additional anchorman would be.

Fred is lovingly survived by his 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his son, Will; stepson, Kevin; and grandson, Dustin. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Karen, along with many family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
