Fred Silfredo Velarde, beloved Father, Grandfather and Great grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday December 31st, 2023, surrounded by family. Fred was born on October 21,1929 in Cordillera-Taos, New Mexico to Arsenio J Velarde and Manuelita Cortez Velarde. He grew up and attended school in Taos after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country and saw combat In Korea earning multiple citations, awards and medals including the Silver Star. Upon returning home he worked in construction and farming with his father to provide for his seven children. Later he met his life partner Clorinda Alton and spent 45 yrs. together. Fred loved the great outdoors enjoying fishing and hunting whenever possible he shared these times with his brothers, family, and his constant fishing partner Rudy. His other favorite past times were taking trips to Wendover with Clorinda and watching Denver Broncos football. Fred is survived by his partner Clorinda Alton, Brothers Joel Velarde and his wife Diana and David Velarde, Daughters Linda, Lori, Son Jerry and Stepchildren Connie, Tracy and Kennie Alton
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday January 10th beginning at 11:00 AM with a Rosary and Mass starting at 12:00 PM at Saint Therese Catholic Church 7832 Allen St, Midvale, UT 84047 also there will be a viewing offered Tuesday night at 6pm till 8pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Rd West Jordan, UT 84123 for those that wish to attend. Graveside services will take place at Memorial Estates following the mass with a funeral reception to follow at Saint Therese Catholic Church.
