After a long and active life, Fred Krouse died in Salt Lake City on July 1, 2010 Fred was born to Lovilla Jenne in Pittsfield Massachusetts January 18, 1914
Fred was educated through the 8th grade in Pittsfield Mass and later earned his high school diploma through a correspondence school.
Fred had many varied occupations of which his favorite was working for the railroad as a fireman, but with the advent of the diesel engine his job opportunity was curtailed and he then entered the workforce at the Western Massachusetts Electric Company now known as Northeast Utilities where he worked as a sub-station operator until his retirement. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Fred was a member of the Richmond Massachusetts volunteer fire department and spent four years in the US Navy reserve.
He married Elaine E. Gilbert in January 1934 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage together until Elaine's death in 2004. He was a devoted caregiver to Elaine for ten years, during her extended disability following a stroke.
Fred spent most of his life in Pittsfield and Richmond Massachusetts. Upon his retirement he moved to Florida and lived there for 15 years. He and Elaine returned to Pittsfield Mass in 1994. Fred moved to Salt Lake City in 2007.
Fred enjoyed traveling, especially by automobile and in the 1980's he and Elaine took a long, extended cross-country trip. Fred also had an everlasting fantasy about the wild west and enjoyed Western films and books. Home on the Range was his favorite song, so we are sure he is there now "still a-kickin".
Fred is survived by four daughters. Shirley Ann Krouse, Salt Lake City, Utah, Joan Lucille Krouse Hyattsville, Maryland, Bernadette Garofoli-Hansen (Hank), Salt Lake City, Utah and Freda Wigglesworth (Robert) of Richmond, Massachusetts. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
