G. Dean Martin

G. Dean Martin passed away December 9, 2016 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by family. He was born September 24, 1928 in Grainfield, Kansas to William Martin and Iva Mae Kline Martin.

History

Dean's family moved to Denver, Colorado when he was in eighth grade, where he went on to attend East High School. Near the end of World War II Dean enlisted in the US Marine Corps, where he finished his high school years. After the war he returned home to Denver and enrolled in the business school at the University of Denver and graduated in three years with a BS degree. After college, Dean worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company, and Price Waterhouse accounting firms in Denver. He went on to become a senior auditor for Kennecott Copper Corporation in Salt Lake City, spending the next thirty-six years as an employee for the company.

Dean married Barbara Lee Talbert in 1955 after a loving courtship on the ski slopes of Colorado. They were married for 61 years. Dean and Barbara had four sons together: Peter (b. 1955), Jeffrey (b. 1957), Spencer (b. 1962), and David (b. 1964).

After four years in Utah, Dean was transferred to Waterbury, Connecticut as the manager of the internal audit office. Four years later, he was transferred again, and the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. They made a lovely home for themselves in Chagrin Falls, Ohio where they lived happily for ten years. Then, a transfer came calling again, and the family moved back to Salt Lake City so Dean could head Kennecott's audit office. After two years back in Salt Lake, Chino Mines invited Dean to transfer to Silver City, New Mexico, where Dean and Barbara enjoyed another six happy years. During his time in Silver City, Dean was an active member of the community, which included a tenure as president of the Silver City Rotary Club. Dean then moved back to Salt Lake City to close down the audit office for Kennecott before retiring in 1994. Dean spent his final years playing golf and dividing his time between St. George and Salt Lake City.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, his daughter-in-law, Nancy, and his two grandchildren, Kirsten and Mitchell.
