Salt Lake City, Utah - Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend returned to the loving arms of his wife and son on May 8th, 2015.
Gary was born November 7th, 1940 in Logan, UT to Ralph and Voyza Bennett. He was the youngest of thirteen children. He married his high School sweetheart, Carolyn Strobelt, on December 11, 1959. On April 16, 1966 Gary and Carolyn were sealed together in the St. George, Utah Temple along with their three young boys and their late son Robert who passed away at birth.
Gary resided in Las Vegas, Nevada for 40 Years. He was blessed with six sons and many close friends whom he loved. While in Las Vegas he worked in the family business as a dental technician for Strobelt Dental Lab. Gary moved to Utah in 2004 where he resided until his death.
Gary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and a love for his Heavenly Father and Savior. He held various positions in the church with his favorites being a Scout Master, Primary Teacher, and Stake Sports Coordinator. He always participated in the Ward Softball Leagues while his family cheered him on.
Gary had several passions in life; his family, golf, football, Louis L'Amour books and John Wayne westerns (not necessarily in that order). The perfect day for Gary included playing 18 holes with his sons. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. His relaxation time was spent reading or watching John Wayne westerns.
Gary is survived by his sons Richard (Jeri), Randall (Carol), Russell (Joan), Michael (Stephanie), David (Shawanna), Trenton, 17 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, and the following siblings: Gert Tripp, Wendover, Utah and Darrell (Sue) Bennett, Salt Lake City, Utah. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; son, Robert; his parents, Ralph and Voyza; brothers, Daniel, Ralph, and Donald; sisters Ivy, Eva, Waneta, Helen, and Elaine; Brother-in-law, Mark Tripp; and Grandson, Curtis.
Funeral Services and viewing will be held May, 16th, 2015 at the Winder 13th Ward chapel, 4350 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, UT. The viewing will be open to all friends and relatives from 9:30am to 10:30am with the funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow shortly thereafter at Elysian Burial Gardens.
