George Landon Beales, aged 89 years, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 in Holladay, Utah. He was born in November 1935 to Artimesia & Reginald. He grew up in the Millcreek area and was a graduate of Granite High School. He married Jean, a sweet girl who grew up only a few blocks away from him. Encouraged by his mother, he pursued medicine and graduated from the University of Utah Medical School. Landon worked as a physician, specializing in Internal Medicine. He had his own practice in Holladay and later at the BYU Student Services Clinic. He was known for his humility, compassion, and dedication to helping his patients, especially those struggling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Landon had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He was an accomplished violinist, taught by his father, and played in various quartets and duets, enhancing many events and gatherings with his music. He had a love of classical music and felt this music in his soul. He also had a passion for photography, capturing the beauty of nature and preserving his family memories. He usually had multiple cameras around his neck, and he artistically documented his colorful life on film and developed many of his creations in his own darkroom.
Landon was a dedicated amateur radio operator, or "ham". He built his own radio equipment, skillfully maintaining and operating it to connect with fellow operators around the globe. Many of his children and grandchildren have followed in his footsteps with amateur radio. Landon cherished the friendships he formed over the airwaves, valuing the connection he had with his children and others through ham radio.
Landon was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, raising five sons who all achieved Eagle Scout status. He served as a Scout leader for many years. He was skilled in automobile mechanics, auto body and fender repairs, emergency preparation, and much more. Landon could fix anything and if he didn’t know how, he learned how.
He loved exploring and going on off-road four-wheeling adventures with his family and “$20 Buck Bunch,” and discovering the beauty of the outdoors everywhere he could in Utah. Four-wheeling became a passion for Landon, and he passed that enthusiasm on to his family.
His love for the outdoors extended to scuba diving, archery, snow skiing, camping, and hiking, with Lake Powell being a favorite destination for family time. Landon cherished the moments spent on the houseboat with his loved ones at Lake Powell. These trips were filled with laughter, adventure, and the creation of cherished memories that his family will hold dear forever.
Landon's biggest passion, however, was his family. He was deeply devoted to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved holding “his sweet little grandbabies”. Landon created a Legacy of Love for his posterity. He always had a kind word for everyone. He was a man of character, love, compassion and humility.
Landon’s devotion and love of the scriptures and the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength, direction, and a deep sense of purpose. His favorite calling was teaching the Gospel Doctrine class, which he excelled at for over 25 years.
Our family patriarch will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, as his love and teachings live within all of us that knew him.
Landon is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, a grandchild, and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his younger sister, Jeanette; his children, Alaine (Mark), Ramon (Sandra), Jesse, Howard (Kim), Carolyn (Brad), Anthon (Eileen), Jason (Amy); and 37 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
