Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, surrounded by family, left his earthly home on March 21, 2008. Mortal tears were replaced with eternal joy for the reunion that took place in heaven that spring morn. George LaMar Watson was born September 1, 1919 to George Temple Watson and Ella Nora Hansen in Salt Lake City, Utah. On April 11, 1947 he married the love of his life and eternal companion, Beverly Joyce Hutchinson. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 9, 1949.
Faith, family and love of country were the cornerstones of his life. His deep devotion to God was demonstrated as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as a high priest and faithful temple attendee.
A veteran of WW II, he valiantly defended the land he treasured as a member of Patton's 3rd Army during the Battle of the Bulge ultimately being awarded a purple heart.
His master craftsmanship in carpentry is reflected in the homes he built and remodeled for his children and 32 years as a carpenter for Kennecott Copper Corporation.
His legacy of righteous living, hard work and family togetherness will live in the hearts of his posterity until we are "all" together forever.
Survived by his wife and best friend of 61 years, Joyce; children; Nancy (Brinton) Burbidge, Brent (Kathy) Watson, Donna (Kirk) Jackson, Janice (Paul) Howard, Brad (Trish) Watson, Gary (Diana) Watson, Tammie Flowers, 33 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Melvin R. Hutchinson (Inglewood, California). Preceded in death by his sister, Delora Talbot and brother, Earl Watson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Winder 2nd Ward Chapel, 1361 East 4000 South, Holladay, Utah. Friends and family may call Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 East and Wednesday at the church from 10:00-10:45 A.M. Interment-Larkin Sunset Gardens.
Words are inadequate in expressing our gratitude to Dr. John R. Doty, our Mother, and sister, Janice, for their constant care, unwavering love and devotion to Dad during his illness. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com.
