Geri was born on October 24, 1937, to Reed and Darlene Brower Utley in Flowell, Utah. She treasured many wonderful memories of growing up with her family near her Mom and Pop Brower’s farm. After moving several times, her family eventually settled in East Millcreek. She attended Olympus Junior High and Granite High School. While in school, she met the love of her life, Gary Conrad Litzo. She often joked that they had met in elementary school, though it was in really junior high. They married in July 1954 and began their life together.
As newlyweds, Geri and Gary managed an apartment building as landlords. She became a mother in the fall of 1957. Over the years, she worked at a bank, participated in the PTA, sold LeVoy’s nightgowns, and pursued a variety of other employment opportunities.
Geri enjoyed games of all kinds, especially Spades, bridge, Screwy Louie, and Yahtzee. She traveled often with friends and family on cruises and traveled to Graceland, Mexico, and many other exciting places. Geri and Gary also had a boat that they loved taking to Lake Powell and Bear Lake, where they always had a wonderful time on the water. A master gardener and devoted sun worshipper, Geri was also an incredible cook. When asked for a recipe, she would say, “It’s a secret family recipe I just made up.” She was especially famous for her Jetrose iced tea.
Geri excelled at being a grandmother. She had an epic dress-up collection that all the children, even the dogs, got to enjoy. She loved watching musicals and Western movies and had an impressive record collection that she enjoyed sharing with her grandchildren.
She was stylish, classy, and always beautifully put together. She enjoyed any gathering that included a game of cards. Geri faithfully sent greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas, she never forgot.
Geri was beautiful inside and out. She loved deeply and had a heart of gold. Her warmth made everyone feel safe, loved, and cared for. She had a million-dollar smile, the sweetest little giggle, and countless inside jokes and movie quotes that she loved to sprinkle into conversation. A devoted fan of animals both big and small, she was always happiest with a dog on her lap. She also loved game shows and nearly appeared on Name That Tune.
Geri passed away peacefully at home in West Valley on the afternoon of October 3, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reed and Darlene Utley; her sister, Renee Hamada; her brother, Steve Utley; her husband, Gary Litzo; and her daughter, Shannon Martin. She is survived by her sons, Brett Litzo and Scott Litzo; her grandchildren, Andrea (Greg) Wilcox, Natalie Peacock (Trevor Smith), Zac (Lindsey) Martin, Randi (Tony) Susi, Jessica (Saul) Rodriguez, and Adam Litzo (Jess Harding); 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
